Application Spotlight: Wastewater Treatment Equipment for Bottling Water
Conserving the world’s water and using it efficiently are important goals. Wastewater treatment equipment is a crucial component for ensuring conservation and responsible use of water. Bottling nature’s filtered water in an environmentally responsible way is important for the owner of Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water.
A Passion for Water
The CEO of Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water is Ryan Emmons. This graduate of the University of Southern California has been driven to succeed as an entrepreneur, so much so that he graduated early to initiate his own bottled water company.
With a personal history that includes significant time spent in the Hawaiian Islands, Emmons was driven to explore water and the many facets of this natural resource. He recognized a niche in the bottled water industry, and succeeded in capitalizing on it to not only manufacture a premium beverage, but to work to preserve the environment at the same time.
A special filtering process that borrows some technology from wastewater treatment equipment sends this water through 14,000 feet of volcanic rock, which actually enriches the water thanks to the special volcanic filtration. The water bottles themselves are also 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic. With a sustainable natural resource for the bottled water, the company can even share this resource with people in Africa. For every liter of water purchased by consumers, Emmons’ company donates 650 liters of water to Africa via special elephant pumps that have been installed on site.
Exciting expansions are also in the works for Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water. In addition to the clean drinking water, the company will also donate 325 liters of water suitable for not only drinking and cooking, but also for bathing. With retailing expansions to more eateries and even some resorts, the company is hopeful about these new social initiatives.
The combination of improving human health while minimizing harm to the environment through responsible wastewater treatment equipment or similar natural processes has resulted in a huge win for communities around the world, not just in the United States.
