Making a Difference in our Workplace with Energy Efficient Lighting
M.W. Watermark team members know that making a difference in the world starts close to home.
Each year, the Watermark leadership team sets enthusiastic goals for community outreach projects, charity work and fundraising. This year, staff members have stepped up to make suggestions on how we can also make a difference right here in our workplace. In fact, one of our engineers, Reed, was interested in researching what we could do to save energy in our daily operations.
Our shop is similar to many other manufacturers’ in the fact that we have multiple overhead light fixtures to ensure both a safe and productive work environment.
Reed put together a cost/benefit analysis for switching to LED lighting and presented it to the Watermark leadership team. After reviewing the costs, it was determined that switching to LED bulbs would use only half the electricity and would pay-back in about 6 months.
Based on this proposal, M.W. Watermark decided to move forward with Reed’s suggestion for installing new energy efficient lighting in the shop. Besides saving energy, we were excited to see that the new bulbs are also brighter and provide a better quality of light.
In fact, several members of our office staff were so impressed with the difference the new lighting made on the production floor that they requested their own work area bulbs be swapped out.
