Wastewater Treatment Equipment for Metal Finishing and Plating
Industries that generate significant wastewater, such as metal finishing and plating, are subject to strict regulations from the EPA. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) updated its guidelines for wastewater (effluent) in the metal finishing industry, increasing the amount of regulations and restrictions placed on effluent. The standard guidelines examine several factors, including the amount and type of pollutants in the discharge, the performance of wastewater treatment systems, the relative affordability of that technology, and opportunities to eliminate pollution and inefficiencies. Now these guidelines have been expanded to include a plan for further regulation in the industry that will include gathering data about metal discharges, especially from zinc and cadmium plating operations.
How to Improve Wastewater Treatment
With these new regulations, it’s a smart idea to consider using equipment that will further reduce concentrations of metals in wastewater and treat used water more efficiently. Filter presses are a popular solution for handling metal waste, and can be manufactured in a variety of sizes to fit almost any waste stream. Clarifiers are also a practical, efficient way to pre-treat effluent, which will then be pumped into a filter press for maximum water treatment and reusability. Inclined plate clarifiers offer maximum surface area with a minimum footprint, in order to fit into the smallest space possible.
